History, Heritage and Good Food

If there's one thing people know about Italian families, it's that we take food very, very seriously.

Growing up as a child of Italian immigrants - my dad from just outside of Rome, and mom from Torino, I was raised with a deep respect for my culture and heritage. Spending time in the kitchen with my "Nonna", or grandma, gave me an opportunity to hear stories of her youth in Aielli, and solidified our bond.

Zia (Aunt) Ida served as an inspiration for me to connect with my heritage through cooking.

In college, I had the opportunity to study in Perugia, a city in central Italy, as well as live with my Aunt Ida in Torino. During this time, I found myself able to connect with my Italian identity, it was a place where my culture wasn't seen as something foreign, but something normal, loved, and celebrated.

I worked for years with the idea that pursuing things I was passionate about was an afterthought to other choices and paths in my life.  It's only been recently that I've allowed God into these areas in my life and He's shown me that  I have the freedom to go after the things I'm passionate about. In fact it is written:

"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires." Psalm 37:4 NLT

So here I am, excited to share this part of myself with you,  and as you join me on this journey, I hope and pray that God rekindles a passion or desire in you.

So, as Nonna would say, "Mangia!"

💚 Piccola
